PD Ports has announced an ambitious initiative to develop one of the UK’s largest offshore wind manufacturing and installation hubs, named Teesport Offshore Gateway. The £200 million project aims to establish critical port infrastructure that supports the UK government’s offshore wind and sustainability goals.
The project will transform 180 acres into an integrated offshore industrial hub, offering assembly, marshalling, and supply chain support services. Strategically located, the development is set to play a key role in advancing the UK’s Net Zero agenda and energy independence objectives.
A central feature of the development is a one-kilometre deep-water quay, providing unrestricted access to the North Sea for both floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind operations. The facility will include a 15.5-meter deep berth, capable of accommodating all existing and next-generation offshore installation vessels worldwide.
“Teesport and the River Tees have everything required to successfully host what we believe will become one of the largest offshore wind manufacturing and assembly sites on the UK’s east coast, offering unrivalled access to the North Sea,” said Frans Calje, CEO of PD Ports.
Although the project is still in the early planning stages, it has already secured both planning and marine construction consents, subject to amendments. PD Ports is actively engaging with the offshore renewable energy sector — including OEMs, developers, and industry experts — to refine the project’s strategic direction.
