On July 7, in the port of Split (Croatia), the Croatian-flagged ro-ro ferry Petar Hektorović broke free from its mooring lines due to strong winds and collided with two nearby vessels, resulting in the sinking of the tourist excursion boat Kruna Mora.
According to the Port Authority of Split, storm winds snapped the lines securing the ferry at the pier. As it drifted, the ferry first struck the passenger vessel Krilo before colliding with Kruna Mora, causing it to sink.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The ferry’s crew promptly dropped both anchors to stabilize the vessel and prevent further damage in the port. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after. The exact extent of the damage to Krilo and Petar Hektorović is yet to be determined. An investigation into the incident is underway.
Petar Hektorović is a ro-ro passenger ferry built in 1989, measuring 91.8 meters in length and 18.49 meters in width.
