Inland Cargo Vessel Mon Desir Damaged on the Rhine in Andernach During Salt Unloading
today at 11:44 10

On February 24, the 135-meter inland cargo vessel Mon Desir (MMSI: 244130422) sustained damage on the Rhine River in Andernach, Germany.

The incident occurred while the vessel was unloading road salt. A crane reportedly punctured the hull, allowing water to enter the aft cargo hold. Local fire services were called to the scene and deployed portable pumps to control the flooding.

Divers later carried out a temporary repair to stop the ingress of water. To prevent any contamination of the Rhine, a salt-and-water mixture was pumped into containers on the quay.

Authorities said no injuries were reported. The water police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
