ONE Expands Fleet with Eco-Conscious Vessel ONE Sapphire
On June 12, 2025, Japanese container shipping company Ocean Network Express (ONE) took delivery of the newly built, environmentally advanced container vessel ONE Sapphire. The handover ceremony was held at Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame Shipyard in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Sailing under the flag of Singapore, the vessel has the following specifications:
-
Length: 335.94 meters
-
Beam: 51 meters
-
Gross tonnage: 140,233 tons
According to Imabari Shipbuilding, the ONE Sapphire was designed with sustainability in mind and is fully compatible with future green technologies. The ship can be retrofitted to run on methanol or ammonia, and can be easily equipped with carbon capture systems.
It also features several additional eco-efficient technologies, including:
-
Hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems
-
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
-
Twist rudders for reduced resistance
As a result, the ship is expected to achieve up to 60% reduction in CO₂ emissions, the builder states.
The ONE Sapphire is part of a 20-vessel order placed by ONE in March 2023. Construction contracts were split between Japanese and South Korean shipyards, with all deliveries scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
