Singapore-based offshore services provider Megamas Resources has signed a letter of intent with German shipyard Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven to initiate preliminary discussions on building a new multi-purpose cable-laying vessel. The project also includes the potential integration of a second power module to expand the vessel’s capabilities.
This initiative, launched in partnership with Crewstone International Private Equity and Investments, addresses the global shortage of specialized offshore vessels and supports both the renewable energy and subsea telecommunications sectors.
The vessel will be jointly developed with Ulstein Design and Solutions and built to meet DNV Clean and Recyclable classification standards. Delivery of the first vessel is expected by the end of 2027.
“This vessel will play a critical role — laying, repairing, and maintaining subsea cables, both telecommunications cables that transmit global data and keep us connected, and power cables that deliver renewable energy from offshore sources to where it is most needed,” said Tiev Sien Kheng of Megamas Resources.
