On February 16, the container vessel Seaspan Empire was involved in a collision with two barges while maneuvering in the Port of Santos, Brazil.
The incident occurred at approximately 21:30 local time. The two barges, identified as FB-14 and FB-15, were out of service at the time of the collision and had no passengers or vehicles on board.
Three crew members who were on the barges jumped into the water at the moment of impact and safely reached shore. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to the bow area of the container ship.
Following the collision, Seaspan Empire moved to an anchorage area and later berthed at the DP World terminal early on February 17.
The Port of Santos authority confirmed that the incident did not affect navigation or port traffic. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
Seaspan Empire is a Singapore-flagged container ship built in 2010. The vessel measures 294.13 meters in length and 32.68 meters in beam, with a cargo capacity of approximately 5,041 TEU.
