Iran Threatens to Block the Strait of Hormuz — a Key Route for Global Oil Trade
Ramazan Sharif, spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), stated that Iran is ready to block the Strait of Hormuz if its national interests are threatened. According to him, if “the enemies make a mistake” or act against the Islamic Republic, Tehran will use all available levers of pressure — including cutting off access to the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical chokepoints in the global energy infrastructure. Up to 20% of the world’s oil shipments pass through it, and any disruption in the area could trigger a sharp increase in prices and destabilize international energy markets.
Tensions in the region remain high, drawing close attention from the global community.
