The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that the deck cargo vessel Felicity 8 ran aground off the coast of Barangay Wawa Ibaba, in Lemery, Batangas, on November 9 amid strong winds and currents generated by Super Typhoon “Uwan.”

The vessel had been anchored in Pagapas Bay, Calatagan, seeking shelter from the storm, when severe weather and powerful currents pushed it onto shallow waters, causing it to run aground.

In response, the Lemery Coast Guard Substation, together with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), immediately deployed personnel to assess the situation and inspect for potential damage or environmental hazards.

Initial inspections found no significant structural damage, and the vessel remained stable and seaworthy. All crew members were reported safe, and there were no signs of oil leakage or marine pollution in the affected area.

The PCG has instructed the vessel’s operator to arrange towing assistance for a safe refloat operation. Coordination continues between the Coast Guard, local government of Lemery, and other relevant agencies to ensure an orderly and environmentally safe recovery.

The Felicity 8 sails under the flag of Belize, with a length of 97 meters and a beam of 19 meters.
