Shipbuilding company Drydocks World (part of DP World, UAE) has signed an EPC contract with AMIGO LNG for the design, procurement, and construction of the world’s largest floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility.
Project Scope
Under the agreement, the project will include:
-
the conversion of two existing LNG carriers into floating storage units;
-
the construction of two new FLNG vessels.
All work will be carried out at the Drydocks World yard in Dubai, with delivery of the four-vessel FLNG complex scheduled for the second half of 2028.
The annual production capacity of the new plant will exceed 4.2 million tons of LNG, setting a record benchmark for the industry.
Location and Supply
Once operational, the FLNG facility will be stationed off the coast of Guaymas (Sonora state, Mexico).
Natural gas for liquefaction will be supplied from the United States’ Permian Basin, one of the largest hydrocarbon regions in North America.
The location of the plant will`:
-
⚡️ reduce delivery times to Asian markets;
-
💰 lower transportation costs;
-
🌱 cut emissions compared to export routes via the US Gulf of Mexico.
Construction Technology
Drydocks World will employ a large-scale modular construction method, ensuring:
-
strict quality control;
-
reduced delivery timelines;
-
high operational reliability of the FLNG facility.
Market Impact
The project will strengthen Mexico’s role as a global LNG supplier, meeting growing demand in Asia and Latin America and providing a more direct export route for the global energy market.
