On February 28, the Panama-flagged general cargo vessel Dura Bulk sank off the coast of Laayoune in Western Sahara. Authorities said all crew members were rescued and no injuries were reported.
Morocco’s Ministry of Transport stated that the vessel—carrying clinker, a key material used in cement production—reported water ingress in the Port of Laayoune area. Relevant agencies responded immediately and launched a search-and-rescue operation.
All crew were successfully recovered and taken to a safe location, where they are receiving the necessary assistance. Authorities have started an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
Dura Bulk was built in 1973 and measures 88.85 m in length and 13.28 m in beam, with a deadweight of about 3,007 tonnes.
