The tanker will transport CO₂ from industrial facilities in Norway and pump it into underground storage facilities 1.5 km deep. It is part of the $2.7 billion Longship project, which is set to become the world’s first large-scale carbon capture and storage facility.
📎The Northern Pioneer, built in China, runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and can carry up to 8,000 tonnes of CO₂. It will be the first of four dedicated tankers in the series.
