On September 23, the 106-meter inland vessel River Drone 2 (MMSI: 205563290) ran aground on the Waal River near the city of Tiel in the Netherlands.
The vessel was en route from IJmuiden to Antwerp when it became stuck on a sandbank near the confluence of the Waal River and the Amsterdam–Rhine Canal. The barge firmly lodged on the shoal, blocking traffic along the waterway. No injuries were reported.
Initial attempts to refloat the vessel were unsuccessful. The following day, the self-propelled barge River Drone 3 (IMO: 9973561) arrived on site, and part of the cargo was unloaded. After that, River Drone 2 was successfully refloated and cleared to continue its voyage. No damage to the vessel or pollution incidents were reported.
