Belgian company DEME, a specialist in marine engineering, transport, and dredging, has secured a major contract to install the foundations and offshore substation for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm off the coast of Taiwan. The contract was awarded through CDWE, DEME’s Taiwanese joint venture.
The agreement covers the transport and installation of 35 foundations, the offshore substation, as well as scour protection works.
The Formosa 4 wind farm, developed by Taiwanese company Synera Renewable Energy, will be located around 20 km off the coast of Miaoli County. Once completed, it will have a capacity of 495 MW, providing clean energy and supporting Taiwan’s transition to renewable power.
To execute the works, DEME will deploy several vessels from its fleet, including the cutting-edge installation vessel Green Jade. Owned and operated by CDWE, it is the first of its kind to be designed and built in Taiwan. A fallpipe vessel will be used for the scour protection activities.
Subject to the final investment decision, foundation installation is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
