Belgian marine contractor DEME has secured a key role in the expansion of Poland’s offshore wind sector, winning three contracts for foundation works and cable installation on the BC-Wind project in the Baltic Sea. The combined value of the contracts is estimated at €150–300 million (around $175–350 million).
The BC-Wind offshore wind farm is being developed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, around 23 km off the Polish coast. The project will have an installed capacity of up to 390 MW and is expected to generate enough electricity to power roughly 500,000 households.
For the project, DEME will deploy its heavy-lift vessel Orion to install 27 monopile foundations—26 for the wind turbines and one for the offshore substation. The company will also be responsible for the full scope of inter-array and export cable works, from engineering and design through to offshore installation.
The export cable scope will be executed in cooperation with Hellenic Cables, with DEME using its cable-laying vessels Living Stone and Viking Neptun. Offshore works are scheduled to begin in 2027–2028, following the project’s recent financial close.
BC-Wind builds on a long-standing collaboration between DEME and Ocean Winds. The partners have previously worked together on several major European offshore wind farms, including Moray East and Moray West in the UK, as well as Dieppe–Le Tréport and Noirmoutier in France. For DEME, BC-Wind also represents its second offshore wind project in Poland, following its involvement in the Baltic Power wind farm.
