Belgian company DEME Offshore has signed a contract valued between €50 million and €150 million ($54–162 million) to transport and install subsea cables for the Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
The deal covers the installation of 124 km of inter-array cables, connecting 60 turbine foundations to an offshore substation located about 50 km north of the island of Juist. The scope also includes design, preparation, and technical support.
The Nordseecluster is a joint venture between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), with a planned total capacity of 1.6 GW — enough to supply around 1.6 million households. RWE is responsible for construction and operations, with work on phase B scheduled to begin by late 2027.
To execute the project, DEME will deploy its advanced cable-laying vessel Living Stone along with supporting assets.
According to Filip Scheers, General Manager for Submarine Power Cables at DEME Offshore, this agreement strengthens the company’s position in the European subsea power cable market and expands its collaboration with RWE.
DEME has extensive experience in Germany’s offshore wind sector, with projects including Kaskasi, Merkur, Hohe See, Albatros, Godewind I & II, Dolwin 6, and Borkum Riffgrund I & II in the North Sea, as well as Arcadis Ost and Baltic Power in the Baltic Sea.
