DeepOcean Signs Time Charter for Glomar Supporter to Support Offshore Energy and Oil & Gas Projects
Norwegian subsea services company DeepOcean has announced the signing of a time charter agreement with Glomar Offshore for the multi-purpose support vessel Glomar Supporter.
Built in 2009, the vessel will be deployed for survey, inspection, and light subsea intervention (IMR – Inspection, Maintenance & Repair) operations for offshore wind developers and operators, as well as in the oil and gas sector.
“We have been actively seeking smaller vessels that can provide even more cost-efficient solutions, particularly for the offshore renewables sector. When the opportunity to charter Glomar Supporter arose, we decided to move forward,” said Øyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean.
Glomar Supporter to Join DeepOcean Fleet in 2026
According to the company, Glomar Supporter will join the DeepOcean fleet in January 2026, with initial projects in Europe expected to start in the first quarter of 2026 following vessel mobilization.
The vessel will be equipped with one of DeepOcean’s work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to perform subsea survey and inspection work.
The company is also considering adding an observation-class ROV to broaden its subsea capabilities.
Expanding DeepOcean’s Offshore Capabilities
The charter agreement with Glomar Offshore is part of DeepOcean’s strategy to expand its fleet and strengthen its presence in the offshore renewables and energy markets.
By utilizing smaller, more versatile vessels, the company aims to reduce project costs and improve operational efficiency for both renewable and oil & gas clients.
DeepOcean notes that combining multi-purpose vessels with advanced ROV technology enhances flexibility and performance in inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) operations across multiple offshore sectors.
