Carsten Rehder Strengthens Partnership with India’s GRSE with Four Additional MPP Vessel Orders
German shipowner Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei has further deepened its collaboration with India’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) by signing a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of four additional 7,500 DWT multipurpose (MPP) vessels.
The agreement was signed during the Nor-Shipping maritime event in Oslo. With this latest commitment, Carsten Rehder’s total order with GRSE now stands at 12 vessels. The initial contract for four vessels was signed in June 2024 at a price of $13.5 million each, followed by an additional four in September. Deliveries are expected to continue through 2027.
According to GRSE, the latest batch of vessels will be equipped with hybrid propulsion systems and will comply with the latest cybersecurity standards. The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of August 2025.
GRSE, a shipyard under the Indian Ministry of Defence and known primarily for its military and naval vessels, is actively expanding into the commercial shipbuilding sector. The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai-based Aries Marine to explore and develop maritime platforms and vessels using Aries’ design technologies.
