A maritime incident occurred on May 17 on the main shipping channel of the Paraná River in Argentina involving the tugboat HB Perseus and the moored tanker Ginga Bobcat.
The collision took place at approximately 17:15 while the tug and its barge convoy were performing a maneuver in a busy section of the river. According to preliminary reports, the convoy was attempting to give way to another approaching vessel when it struck the tanker, which was anchored in a designated mooring area.
As a result of the impact, Ginga Bobcat sustained damage to its bow section. At least two barges temporarily broke away from the convoy and drifted downstream following the collision. The tug’s crew later regained control and recovered the drifting barges.
No injuries or environmental pollution have been reported.
On May 18, the Argentine Naval Prefecture launched an official investigation into the incident. Authorities are inspecting both vessels, reconstructing the sequence of events, and interviewing those involved.
