The bulk carrier Hawk S (IMO 1082782) struck a berth at the Grindrod Maydon Wharf terminal in the Port of Durban, South Africa. The incident occurred as the vessel was entering the port after arriving from Vistino, Russia.

The impact caused significant damage to the vessel’s bow. The hull was reportedly breached both above and below the waterline, resulting in water ingress. The full extent of the damage to the ship and port infrastructure has not yet been determined.

Emergency and operational teams were deployed to the scene following the collision. Hawk S was subsequently moved to another berth for a technical inspection. No injuries have been reported.

The Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The cause of the collision remains unknown.

Hawk S is a Liberian-flagged Supramax bulk carrier built in 2025. The vessel is 180 metres long and 30 metres wide, with a deadweight capacity of 40,576 tonnes.
