✅ The Armonia, a 2008-built bulk carrier operated by Bulgarian company Eleen Marine, was en route from Singapore to the Cape of Good Hope when the crew noticed smoke from the burning vessel. The small vessel did not have an AIS transponder and showed little radar activity
✅ The captain of the Eleen Armonia deviated from course to provide assistance. In a lengthy rescue operation, the bulk carrier's crew rescued all 34 Indonesian nationals on board the fishing vessel, identified as Hasil Abadi 28. The fire was extinguished, although the vessel was likely completely destroyed by the fire, with no casualties reported
✅ Eleen Marine contacted the owner of the fishing vessel and learned that several other vessels in the company's fleet were operating nearby. The crew were given food and medical care, then transferred to one of these ships, after which the Eleen Armonia continued on its way
🔥 “This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the unbreakable bond between seafarers around the world,” the company said in a statement.
