Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) has secured its first long-term emergency response and rescue vessel (ERRV) charter in the offshore wind sector.
The contract, valued at more than £7 million, will support the construction of ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia Two and East Anglia Three offshore wind farms off the coast of Suffolk, England.
Under the agreement, VOS Traveller, built in 2007, will provide on-site emergency response and rescue services. The vessel will operate from the port of Lowestoft, with its 24-person crew working on a 28-day rotation.
Its responsibilities include round-the-clock standby, safety cover and search and rescue support. The service is designed to provide a place of safety for people requiring rescue within 20 minutes.
VOS Traveller is equipped with two fast rescue craft, a rescue scoop and a recovery basket, as well as onboard medical equipment. Additional capabilities include collision-avoidance technology, radio communications and offshore environmental monitoring systems.
VOS Managing Director Stuart Thom described the collaboration with ScottishPower Renewables as an important milestone, marking the company’s first long-term commitment to providing ERRV services for the offshore renewable energy sector.
