On October 6, in Istanbul’s Sirkeci Port (Eminönü district), the Turkish-flagged ferry Okmeydani collided with another vessel and then struck the pier. Fortunately, no passengers were injured.
The incident occurred at around 10:15 a.m. local time. According to preliminary reports, Okmeydani experienced a steering malfunction while approaching the terminal. As a result, the ferry first hit the BUDO ferry, owned by the Bursa Municipality and moored at the terminal, before crashing into the pier, causing visible damage.
Police and medical teams quickly arrived at the scene, and all passengers were safely evacuated. Afterwards, the ferry Galatasaray was deployed to tow the damaged vessel to a safe location.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the steering failure and assess the extent of the damage.
