A serious maritime incident occurred in the Bosphorus when the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship Artvin collided with the passenger ferry Kamil Sayin, which was operating on the Besiktas–Uskudar route. As a result, 12 passengers were injured, two of whom were evacuated by ambulance to a hospital.
The collision happened around 20:30 local time. Following the accident, both vessels were moved out of the strait to ensure navigational safety. The ferry safely berthed at the Pasalimani pier, while the cargo ship anchored nearby.
The Turkish Coast Guard assessed the damage and launched an investigation. Three people, including both captains, were detained in connection with the incident. After being questioned at the police station, the suspects were referred to court and released under judicial control.
Two of the suspects were banned from leaving the country on charges of “causing injury to multiple people through negligence,” while another suspect received a travel ban and was required to sign a petition of “taking responsibility for the crime.”
