On 14 January, the cargo vessel Princess Eva suffered an engine malfunction while at Ahırkapı anchorage off Istanbul, causing the ship to lose manoeuvrability and start drifting. The situation prompted an immediate tug response to prevent a potential collision.
According to Turkey’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KGEM), the 98-metre vessel drifted dangerously close to the cargo ship Resat Aga. Under the coordination of Istanbul’s Vessel Traffic Services / Ship Traffic Services centre, tug KURTARMA-1 assisted and moved Princess Eva to a safer position, where the vessel was re-anchored.
No injuries, collision, or environmental pollution were reported.
