On 21 August, the Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) reported an incident involving the general cargo vessel MY Zeynep, sailing under the flag of Barbados. The vessel suffered a mechanical failure, which led to a complete loss of power off the coast of Nara in the Dardanelles Strait.
The Çanakkale Vessel Traffic Services Center immediately coordinated a rescue operation. The tug Kurtarma-19 was dispatched and successfully towed the vessel to the Şevketiye anchorage, where it was safely secured.
Fortunately, there were no injuries and no environmental pollution as a result of the incident.
The MY Zeynep, built in 2015, is a general cargo vessel with a deadweight capacity of 2,647 tons, a length of 79.79 meters, and a beam of 15.4 meters.
