On the morning of April 1, the 86-meter inland cargo vessel Imperium (MMSI: 244670489) ran aground on the Mark River near Zevenbergen (Netherlands).
The vessel was en route from Antwerp to Botlek when it attempted to pass under a railway bridge but became wedged between the bridge supports.
🚧 Initial refloating attempts failed, forcing authorities to take additional measures. Rail traffic was temporarily suspended, the bridge was lifted, and trains were rerouted.
⚓ Only by the evening, with the help of a tug and salvage support vessel, Imperium was successfully freed.
After the incident, the vessel proceeded to Dinteloord for inspection.
✅ No injuries were reported.
📏 Preliminary data indicates the vessel was approximately 40 cm wider than the safe clearance for passing through the bridge.
