Seaspan Energy has successfully completed its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) ship-to-ship bunkering operation in the Port of Long Beach, USA. The LNG was transferred from the bunker vessel Seaspan Baker to the PCTC (Pure Car and Truck Carrier) Plumeria Leader, owned by Japan’s NYK Line.
The operation took place at anchorage and marks a significant step in Seaspan’s growing LNG bunkering program, aimed at reducing emissions and supporting sustainable maritime transport.
According to Seaspan, a similar operation was carried out last month, when Seaspan Baker fueled a tanker vessel—demonstrating the versatility and flexibility of its bunker fleet.
In 2024, Seaspan Energy introduced three new LNG bunker vessels, each with a capacity of 7,600 cubic meters. These vessels are designed with low-emission and reduced underwater noise technologies and are capable of ship-to-ship bunkering as well as coastal fuel delivery.
So far, Seaspan Baker has completed LNG bunkering on the West Coast of North America for a variety of ship types, including car carriers, containerships, tankers, and cruise vessels.
This achievement strengthens Seaspan’s position as a key player in clean marine logistics and reflects the growing demand for sustainable fuel solutions in the global shipping industry.
