The river cargo vessel Stevila ran aground on the Waal River near Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
The incident occurred during the afternoon of 26 September, while the 95-metre vessel was sailing from Nijmegen towards Marcinelle. Stevila entered a shallow section of the river where the water depth was reportedly only around one metre.
The crew initially attempted to refloat the vessel without assistance, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Stevila subsequently requested help.
The 135-metre river vessel Jacobus arrived at the scene. After a towing line was secured between the vessels, Jacobus successfully pulled Stevila free from the shallow water.
The vessel was able to continue its voyage after being refloated. No injuries, damage or environmental pollution were reported.
Stevila measures 95 metres in length and is registered under MMSI 205268490. Jacobus, which assisted in the operation, is 135 metres long and operates under MMSI 244650495.
