A fire broke out aboard the research vessel Rem Andes approximately 100 nautical miles south of Grand Isle, Louisiana.

The incident occurred during the afternoon of October 12, prompting the vessel to issue a distress call.

A US Coast Guard C-27 Spartan aircraft from Air Station Clearwater was the first aircraft to respond. An HC-144 Ocean Sentry from Aviation Training Center Mobile and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station New Orleans were later dispatched to assist.

As the situation developed, all 42 crew members abandoned Rem Andes and evacuated to a life raft.

Coast Guard aircraft remained on scene to monitor the evacuation and ensure the crew’s safety until rescuers and nearby vessels arrived.

All 42 crew members were successfully rescued. No fatalities or missing persons were reported.

The rescued seafarers were transferred to a nearby offshore vessel, which transported them toward Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

According to the US Coast Guard, the fire aboard Rem Andes was subsequently extinguished.

The vessel is now coordinating commercial salvage operations while authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Rem Andes is owned by Rem Andes AS, sails under the Cyprus flag and is approximately 87.9 metres long.

The vessel is used for offshore operations, including seismic survey work for the oil and gas industry and renewable energy projects.

The US Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the fire.
