During the night of November 8, a fire erupted on board the offshore support vessel Blue Phoenix while it was moored at the Permaducto terminal in the Port of Coatzacoalcos, Mexico.
According to local authorities, no injuries or oil spills were reported. However, the blaze produced heavy smoke, prompting the temporary suspension of navigation in the port. Emergency response teams were quickly mobilized to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas and other vessels.
Initial firefighting efforts brought the situation under control within about an hour. The tugboats Azteca and México sprayed water over the burning vessel, successfully containing the flames.
Despite the initial success, the fire reignited, and response teams continued their efforts until they managed to board the vessel and fully extinguish the blaze.
Unofficial reports suggest that the fire started in the wheelhouse before spreading to other parts of the ship. The exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.
The Blue Phoenix is a Mexican-flagged offshore support vessel built in 1999. It measures 101 meters in length, 21.04 meters in beam, and has a gross tonnage of 6,984 tons.
