On the afternoon of March 28, the passenger ferry Jinxing III ran aground in the Philippine Sea near the fishing harbor of Kaiyuan, Taiwan
The vessel, carrying 55 passengers and eight crew members, was en route from Lanyu to Houbihu, Pingtung County, when strong winds drove it onto shallow water off the coast
Two Taiwan Coast Guard patrol boats were dispatched to help. With the support of local fishing vessels, all passengers were successfully evacuated to shore. There were no reports of casualties
The Jinxing III was later refloated and towed back to Kaiyuan Harbor. Officials have not yet released any information on possible damage to the vessel or the environmental impact of the incident.
