Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has announced the acquisition of Kadmos — a global platform for end-to-end digital payroll services for seafarers, founded in Germany four years ago.
Back in 2019, NYK launched its own fintech service, MarCoPay, in Manila, offering financial services tailored to Filipino seafarers and their families. The platform provides access to loans, insurance, and secure electronic payroll services, and holds an electronic money issuer license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the central bank of the Philippines.
With the acquisition of Kadmos, NYK aims to expand its presence in the global digital payments market by reaching seafarers of all nationalities. The integration of both platforms will enhance synergy and strengthen the company’s capabilities in the maritime fintech sector.
