Petrochemical Tanker PVT Azura Suffers Engine Failure in Kiel Canal

On February 15, the petrochemical tanker PVT Azura suffered a main engine failure while transiting the Kiel Canal in Germany.

 

The incident occurred at around 08:00 local time, when the vessel came to a stop near the Schwartbek lock close to Suchsdorf. The pilot immediately notified the traffic control center in Brunsbüttel, and towing assistance was arranged.

 

At approximately 10:00, two tugboats arrived on scene, secured the vessel, and carried out a turning maneuver. By midday, the tanker had been safely towed to the port of Kiel.

 

Authorities reported that no other vessels or canal infrastructure were damaged during the incident. Repair work on board PVT Azura is currently underway.

 

The PVT Azura was built in 2009 and sails under the flag of Vietnam. The vessel measures 146.19 meters in length and 24.2 meters in beam.
