On April 19, the container ship MSC Talia F, sailing under the Portuguese flag, experienced an engine failure approximately eight nautical miles east-northeast of Punta Melenara, Spain.
The vessel, which was carrying containers, some of them containing hazardous materials, began drifting southward at a speed of about two knots. The incident occurred under challenging weather conditions, with northeasterly winds of 25–30 knots and wave heights reaching up to two meters.
The Spanish maritime safety agency Salvamento Marítimo promptly dispatched the rescue tug Heroínas de Sálvora to assist the disabled vessel. The tug successfully secured the ship and towed it to the port of Las Palmas for inspection and assessment.
Following the necessary checks and procedures, MSC Talia F departed the port on April 21, with an expected arrival in Nouakchott, Mauritania, by April 23.
