Global logistics company DP World has announced a €48 million investment in a new temperature-controlled logistics hub at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. The project will strengthen Europe's cold chain infrastructure and support the growing demand for specialized logistics services.
The new facility will be built on an 83,000 m² site adjacent to the Antwerp Gateway container terminal. Once completed, it will provide more than 55,000 m² of modern warehouse space with direct connections to port operations, rail, road and inland waterways.
The logistics hub is designed primarily for pharmaceuticals, healthcare products, fresh food and other temperature-sensitive cargo. Around half of the warehouse will be dedicated to refrigerated storage for perishable goods, while the remaining capacity will support chemicals, technology products and other specialized cargo requiring controlled conditions.
The initial €48 million investment represents the first phase of the project. DP World expects total long-term investment to reach approximately €100 million as additional infrastructure is developed in the coming years.
By locating the facility next to the Antwerp Gateway terminal, customers will benefit from faster cargo handling and integrated logistics services that combine ocean transport, terminal operations, warehousing and inland distribution from a single location. This approach is expected to improve supply chain efficiency and further strengthen Antwerp's position as one of Europe's leading logistics gateways.
The new logistics center is also being designed with sustainability in mind. It will feature energy-efficient technologies and modern cold chain solutions to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the highest standards for handling sensitive cargo.
The investment is part of DP World's long-term strategy to expand its global logistics network and meet the increasing demand for reliable cold chain services. As international trade in pharmaceuticals, healthcare products and perishable goods continues to grow, projects like the Antwerp logistics hub are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of global maritime logistics.
