US proposals to impose high port charges on Chinese ships would have a major impact on all companies in the container shipping industry, most of whose ships are built in China, French shipping company CMA CGM said on Friday
The US Trade Representative's office has proposed charging up to $1.5 million for Chinese-built ships calling at US ports as part of an investigation into China's expansion into the shipbuilding, maritime and logistics sectors
"China builds more than half of the world's container ships, so this will have a significant impact on all shipping companies," Chief Financial Officer Ramon Fernandez told reporters.
