International shipbuilding company Chantier Davie Canada, which owns the Finnish Helsinki Shipyard, has signed an agreement to acquire Enersense Marine and Offshore, a company specializing in steel production and steel structures located at the port of Pori, Finland.
Through this acquisition, Helsinki Shipyard will secure local steel supplies and become the only specialized shipbuilding facility in Finland with a fully integrated cycle—from design to vessel delivery. This will allow the shipyard to expand its capacity to build multiple specialized vessels simultaneously.
Steel production at the Mäntyluoto facility will support Davie and Helsinki Shipyard’s shipbuilding projects in both Finland and North America.
The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approval from antitrust authorities.
In March 2025, Helsinki Shipyard signed a contract with the Government of Canada to construct the hull of a heavy icebreaker based on the Polar Max design. The Pori facility will soon begin steel production for the icebreaker, with construction at the shipyard scheduled to start in August.
Davie also noted that all employees of Enersense Marine and Offshore will retain their positions under the new ownership.
