Norwegian engineering company Aker Solutions has signed a new contract with Dragados Offshore to build the steel substructure for the BalWin2 HVDC converter station — a key component of Germany’s 2 GW offshore wind power grid. The project is being developed by Amprion Offshore.
The contract, valued between NOK 1.5 and 2.5 billion (approximately USD 147–245 million), builds upon an earlier agreement signed in February and includes an option to deliver a second converter station as part of the broader BalWin HVDC system.
The work will be carried out at Aker Solutions’ manufacturing facility in Verdal, Norway. The project is expected to create over 450 jobs at peak activity. Aker Solutions’ scope includes engineering, procurement, and construction.
Preparatory activities are scheduled to begin in Q1 2026, with major construction starting in early 2027. Final delivery of the substructure is expected in 2029.
