Helideck operations are regulated not by the vessel owner, but by UK aviation authorities. Even a minor error in radio communication can lead to a ban on helicopter landings. That’s why the ROCC is mandatory — and the exam is far from a formality. It includes both theory and hands-on simulations, with emergency scenarios that test not only your knowledge but also your reaction under pressure.
Personal note:
The Aberdeen course is tough. Instructors are strict. Out of 8 people, 3–4 often fail. The main reasons? Weak English, lack of preparation, or stress during the exam. Study the materials the center sends you in advance — they’re essential. Want an easier path? Consider FMTC — nearly everyone passes there, except for the truly unprepared.
